1.2. Highwinds Software Product Selection

In selecting Highwinds' Products, consider the tasks you'd like to accomplish and refer to the table below:

I'd like to...Product(s)

  • Route Articles as efficiently as possible to different POP's.

  • Provide Feed services to my downstream bandwidth customers.

  • Perform robust SPAM filtering.

  • Centralize Usenet article numbers throughout my network.

  • Provide backup feeds and/or redundant or delayed feeds.

  • Accept a Usenet feed and send it to several Reader servers.

Cyclone

  • Provide a Usenet service to my customer base.

  • Store Usenet articles.

  • Support News Clients (XNews, Outlook Express, Agent, Newsbin, trn, etc.)

  • Authenticate users against my corporate database.

Typhoon

Do all the things Typhoon can but add:

  • A Web/HTTP interface

  • Bandwidth Limiting

  • Control the Bandwidth consumption of my customers reading News.

  • Offer Web Based discussion/Usenet to my customers.

Twister

Do all the things Typhoon can but add:

  • Spool Sharing

  • Bandwidth Limiting

  • Virtual Retention levels

  • Lower Hardware deployment cost

  • Control the Bandwidth consumption of my customers reading News.

  • Share spools among my Reader Servers.

  • Increase the performance of my Usenet Architecture.

Tornado

  • Centralize Usenet article numbers throughout my network but not require a full feed be sent to the numbering server.

  • Lower my bandwidth costs for feeding news throughout my network.

  • Provide article numbering redundancy.

Hurricane
