11.6. Building the Fast Filter API

(Contributed by Jay Munsterman) Under Solaris 8 without a tuned kernel, make test of Highwinds::FilterAPI WILL fail. The test script attempts to shmget a 4mb chunk, by default Solaris 8 shmmax is only 1mb. To check, run sysdef, on an untuned box the interesting piece is:

1048576      max shared memory segment size (SHMMAX)
1            min shared memory segment size (SHMMIN)
100          shared memory identifiers (SHMMNI)
6            max attached shm segments per process (SHMSEG)

Under Solaris 9 default:

8388608     max shared memory segment size (SHMMAX)
100         shared memory identifiers (SHMMNI)

To fix the problem under 8, add to /etc/system:

set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=8388608
