7.4. Cookies, ConnectionTags, and SessionIDs

By overriding the Cookie authentication field, Typhoon, Twister, and Tornado Back End will maintain an identifier or state information for individual connections. The Cookie field takes an arbitrary string and will provide that string as the value for the Cookie field in future authentication transactions that involve that connection.

Similarly, the ConnectionTag authentication field can also be overridden. The ConnectionTag field is identical in operation to the Cookie field, except that it is logged with the connection statistics.

The SessionID field passed from the server to the authentication program is a unique string that can be used to identify the connection. The identifier is guaranteed to be unique for the lifetime of the server and the same SessionID is sent down with the connect, authenticate, and disconnect requests. This identifier is also passed to a POST filter if one has been defined.
